Margaret Mary Grant, 74, passed away on February 1, 2018 following a long illness.  A native of the Bronx, Margaret grew up in Albany.  Daughter of the late Thomas J. and Margaret Bulman Grant, she is survived by her brothers, Thomas J. Grant of Fairway, KS, John (Barbara) Grant of Marlborough, MA, and Edward (Christine) Grant of Brooklyn, NY; her nieces Elizabeth (Jeremy) Merling, Rebecca (Nathan) Grant, Meghan Grant, and nephew Spencer Grant.  She is also survived by her dear brother-in-law, Robert Whitby of Troy.  She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Geraldine Grant Whitby.

Margaret lived an independent and adventurous life.  She spent 8 years in The Gambia, West Africa with the Peace Corps and later the World Bank.  She was a global traveler, and loved reading, gardens and plants.  She particularly enjoyed visiting state and national parks, supporting them throughout her life.  Margaret will be missed by family, friends and former students.

A family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.  Contributions in her memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to the Yosemite Conservancy.
