Shirley Mae Roff

"Til death us do part". Some 66 years ago, Shirley and Bill Roff stood at the altar of a small church in Rock Stream NY to repeat that vow. Shirley's death on June 27th at age 87, brought down the curtain on what truly has been a wonderful life. The two had raised a family consisting of 4 sons and one daughter. She had given birth over the first 9 years of that marriage to 2 sets of twins and one single birth. She was predeceased by a son Donald and the 4 living survivors are Ronald, Barry, James and Sheryl. She is also survived by her husband, Willard and many, many grand children and great grandchildren. She died peacefully in her sleep with her family around her. Services will be private and family oriented. Shirley (born Wilson) was a Registered Nurse who was educated at Arnot Ogden Hospital in Elmira as a member of the last class of Cadet Nurses. Such was operated to train nurses for service during WWII. She was, without question among the most giving persons one could know. She retired from the Albany Red Cross Blood Service in 1987 and took up the crafting hobby in earnest. If you ever met her, you no doubt have some craft item she had fabricated and given to you. We who loved her will surely miss her but know that her death has rid her of the pain and discomfort of Rheumatoid Arthritis and that she will find her place in heaven at peace and teaching Arts & Crafts. Our thanks go out to the staff of Hospice. We have found them to be a caring and capable group which is sensitive to the needs of patients. We suggest that in lieu of flowers or other remembrances that donations be sent to the Community Hospice of Albany County.
