d. February 19, 2021

Jerry Joseph Ethier, 67 of Wynantskill – passed away peacefully on February 19th at Van Rensselaer Manor. Born in Joliette, Canada on September 29th, 1953, Jerry was son to Earl & Rita Ethier, loving husband to his grade-school sweetheart, Jude Kennedy Ethier, and amazing Father to Jason Dueval Ethier and Rebecca Jude Ethier. He spent his life devoted to his family and fighting hard to have more time with them. Jerry moved to the States at a young age with his family. He graduated from La Salle Institute in 1972 where he excelled in sports, especially hockey, where he later became the hockey coach for Troy Youth Academy. Jerry was a 2nd generation tradesman and loved his work as a general contractor. He was the owner of Sonbec Construction and he took pride in all the work he accomplished throughout his lifetime. His greatest achievement being the home he built on Hidley Road in 1980 and family and life he and Jude created there. Known to most as “Poppy”, Jerry not only worked hard all his life, but took the time to enjoy it. His was passion was always building and helping his family, friends, and community. He enjoyed the years he coached but was most fond of the years he spent supporting Jason in hockey and Rebecca in softball. He was a hobby sugarmaker and created a sugar shack in his back yard where he made his own syrup for family and friends as gifts. Christmas was his favorite time of year – his property and house so adorn with lights and decorations it became an attraction for nearby families and communities to visit and view. He loved being with his children and grandchildren and was very proud of his legacy. Survivors in addition to his wife include son Jason (Erin) Ethier of Averill Park, NY. Rebecca Ethier (Heath Ryan Hilmeyer) of Charlotte, NC. Sisters Dorothy Mary Ethier Conroy (James) of Troy, NY & youngest Shirley Ethier of Silver Springs, FL. Grandchildren Rozlin, Sylence, Colin and Ryker (Ethier). Due to Covid-19, a celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at a later date. We would like to thank all the nurses, doctors, and aids at Van Rensselaer Manor, especially Stacy and Sandy who had great relationships with Jerry who they lovingly called “JereBare”. They were my lifeline during this hard time. Arrangements will be made under the care of Daniel Purcell Funeral Home on Pawling Ave, Troy, New York.
