John G. Mahoney, 77, died unexpectedly but peacefully at home in Broadalbin N.Y. on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
John was born in Troy, N.Y. to Mary and John Mahoney. John graduated from Catholic Central High School ('66) in Troy and later studied Art History at Skidmore College in Saratoga N.Y. John began his working career in architectural drafting with Con Edison in Manhattan. Later, he changed career paths and devoted many years to human services, working in home health care and assisted living, where he was appreciated for his compassion and dedication to others.
In his younger years, John was both a drummer and an artist, interests that reflected his creativity and independent spirit. John enjoyed a subtle wry humor - some said it was proof he was Irish.
He is survived by his siblings, David, Kevin, and Mary Kathleen.
John is also survived by his children, Jennifer Mahoney Dennie and Sean Mahoney, from his marriage to his first wife, Kathryn Reynolds, who preceded him in death. He was later married to Bonnie Lamos, also deceased, and together they had two daughters, Megan and Molly.
At the time of his passing, John was in a long and loving relationship with his partner, Dora Feathers. Together they enjoyed singing in the choir at the church where they met.
John leaves several grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews and some life-long friends who will miss him.
Visiting will be from noon until 2pm with a memorial service at 2pm on Friday May 15th at Konicek & Collett Funeral Home, 1855 12th Ave. Watervliet, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers John would have preferred people donate to their favorite charity.
