Josephine Hira, daughter of Hira Herman and Martha, was born on March 1, 1950, in Lahore, Pakistan. She passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, at her residence in Watervliet, surrounded by her loved ones.
A devoted member of the Franciscan Missionaries of Christ the King, Josephine dedicated 40 years of her life as a Franciscan nun. She gave her life wholly and joyfully to God, serving underprivileged children and caring for countless young people in Karachi, Pakistan. She lived according to Franciscan values of simplicity, compassion, and faithfulness.
In 2001, Josephine immigrated to the United States, where she continued her life of service by working as a caregiver for those in need. Her Catholic faith was central to her life and remained steadfast throughout her journey. She generously sponsored children in need, both internationally and within her local community of Watervliet.
Josephine's kindness knew no boundaries. She loved and cared for people regardless of their creed, background, or circumstances, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Her life is beautifully reflected in the words of 2 Timothy 4:6–7:
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
Josephine's legacy of faith, service, and unconditional love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
