Lewis "Lew" E. Merritt, 70, of Albany, NY passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2026. He was born on October 28, 1955, in Albany, NY, son of the late Harvey C Merritt and Frances K (Budro) Merritt. Grandson of Lewis and Doris Budro and Charles Merritt and Harriet Pelton.

Lewis was a loving father and proud grandfather to Angie and Natalie Merritt.

He was survived by sisters Carolyn (Peter) Gressick and Diane (late Larry) Riley. Also, survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Lewis served in the United States Navy and received a National Defense Service Medal. He was later honorably discharged where he then went on to work for the NYS Insurance department where he was known as "Lightening" for his quick response to any assignment. He was a man of few words, had a great sense of humor, would give you the shirt off his back, but was known to be one stubborn man. He could and would fix anything, but he worked at his own pace. Above all, he was a good man. Lew enjoyed watching the NY Yankees and the NY Giants, especially when they beat the cowboys!

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services with Lew's family at 10:00AM on January 27, 2026, in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered in honor of Lew's military service.
