Philip "Lesley" Pope Jr. of Wynantskill died peacefully on Tuesday March 24th in Albany Medical Center with his loving wife by his side. Son of the late Philip and Myrtle O'Neal Pope. Beloved husband of Judith Pope.
Born in Missouri, Phil moved to the capital district in 2004, making his move his first and only crossing of the Mississippi river. Phil was employed by Curtis Printing in East Greenbush where he worked as a press man and eventually retired. In his time away from work Phil enjoyed fishing and was an avid gardener. A man with a "green thumb" Phil was wildly successful in growing his own vegetable in his yard and enjoyed not just tending to his garden but the spring work where the most difficult work took place in preparation for planting. Phil was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where he attended mass regularly with his wife Judy and often helped Judy in the church office where she works and genuinely enjoyed the community and fellowship of the church.
In addition to his wife Judith, Phil is survived by his daughters; Tammy, Teresa, Shelly, Liz and Jessica. Also surviving are Phil's sibling's Steve, Russell, Ernie, Dallas, Gerald, Janice, Alice and Rella.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Phil on Tuesday, March 31st, in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 2416 7th Avenue, Watervliet at 12 noon with Monsignor Donald Rutherford officiating. Family and friends are invited and may call in the church prior to the mass from 10am until 11:50am. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet immediately following the mass.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Konicek & Collett Funeral Home LLC., Watervliet.
